Human Foods You Should Never Feed to Your Shih Tzu

Some human foods can be detrimental to your Shih Tzu life because their metabolisms are different from ours. Some human foods can cause your Shih Tzu to have an upset stomach or vomiting, whereas, others can actually cause severe illness or even death. The following foods should never be fed to your Shih Tzu (intentionally or unintentionally). Please keep in mind the list below is not complete. It is intended to be used as a general guideline.

  • Chocolate, coffee, tea or caffeine
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Milk or dairy products
  • Moldy or spoiled foods
  • Cat food
  • Fish (raw, canned or cooked)
  • Human vitamins or supplements containing iron
  • Baking powder or soda
  • Stems, seeds or leaves from an apple
  • Onions and garlic
  • Grapes or raisins
  • Mushrooms
  • Salt
  • Macadamia nuts
  • Fish or poultry bones
  • Pig ears – Shih Tzu will choke on these while trying to swallow
